I am often asked what is the difference between a game angling coach and a fly fishing instructor.
Well for me it is a matter of tuition style.
I see it like this: Although I call myself a fly fishing instructor I teach in what is considered as a coaching style. However the word coach is not very well recognized within the sport of fly fishing.
An instructor tells you how to do something whereas a coach helps you to understand how something is done enabling you to progress through practice because you have developed an understanding of the mechanics of the task rather than just the basic movements necessary to perform the task.
Fly Fishing Lessons and Casting Tuition
I am happy to give casting instruction at a local small still water, Woolaston Court,or on one of the nearby rivers: Wye, Usk, Monnow and tributaries. Alternatively, casting tuition or fly fishing instruction can be arranged at a place of your choice.
If you want a lesson only focusing on casting instruction I would recommend tuition in sessions of three hours but this could be combined with fly fishing instruction covering different techniques for catching trout and grayling as part of a day's guided fly fishing.
Time with a game angling coach can help every level of fly fisherman, from absolute beginners to old hands. Whether you want to learn the basics or iron out the odd bad habit, learn a few more casts or freshen up rusty skills, tuition can help us all improve our fly fishing skills.
There are so many tricks and skills a fly angler can have in their armory above and beyond the basic roll and overhead cast. Some of these deal with problems such as wind and trees, some are techniques to improve distance and presentation.
So, if you want to learn to cast, improve your style or enlarge your bag of tricks, get in touch.
