well a day of two halves anyway…….
The first half of the day was spent with Andy Broad fishing the river Monnow at Skenfrith. today was Andy’s first taste of fly fishing and he was a very enthusiastic pupil. When we first arrived there was just the very start of a Grannom hatch, but with strong winds this soon fizzled out to nothing.
First we spent an hour getting to grips with the casting.
After that we got on the the business fishing.
We fished down the run with a couple of takes but unfortunately no fish on the bank.
After a quick trip back home to meet the structural engineer, part of the ongoing chaos at home due to renovating the house I was back out on the river.
This time on the enchanting Olchon, one of the newest tributaries of the River Monnow available through the Wye and Usk Passport scheme.
This really is a Magical little stream winding its way up the valley from run to pool.
I spent a few lovely hour fishing my way up the stream, a fantastic way to spend the afternoon.
There should be plenty of good fish in the stream as it is full of prime trout habitat
and at the end of the day the Sun set behind the mountains in a wonderful vista.
