Right, so as the season is about to start you may be feeling a little rusty after a winter either not fly fishing or fly fishing very little. So start the season with a Fly fishing lessons I know that like the trout themselves many anglers are not on top form until late April or early May, even those that get in a bit of winter casting practice and the odd grayling trips. Personally, I look forward to the weather starting to warm up, giving me a chance to get out on the river or lake for a pre-season warm up with a couple of the other GAIA instructors providing an opportunity to share the winters thoughts on tactics, methods and fly developments and to blow away the metaphorical cobwebs.

One way you can get this early season lesson is to attend a fly fishing event such as the Game Angling Instructors Associations Open Day. This years event will be held a Tweedswood near Melrose in the scottish borders. Information about the day can be found here.

3rd of March starts the browntrout season on the Monnow, Usk and Wye and without fail I get out and fish. Not that I don’t fish in the winter, its just one of those thing. I can fish for brown trout so will. Read more »
