After a couple of days rain. I decided the rivers would be nice and fresh. I haven't fished the Little Avon in a while so headed over that way. I stopped at the services on the way to get some fuel and while in the queue felt a right satisfying stretch coming on. Just at the summit of the stretch there was a crack loud enough for the chap in the line behind me to comment and my back was well and truly out.
Well! Cold water is supposed to be good for this sort of injury so carried on to the river.
When I got here I found it to be in good condition, unlike my back.
I fished for a about twenty minutes but casting a fly with a bad back is not so much fun. While to cold water had eased it , it was not enough. So after catching only two small Graying on a very pale olive gammerus I decided to head home and call up the Chiropractor.

What with the recent bad back and getting ready for Christmas it seems I have not been fishing nearly as much as I would like, but then that is always the case.
Having just arranged access to a bit of the River Taff through some friends that fish the stretch I was keen to give it a go. when I got there there was a couple of people that I have met before and my friends that introduced me to this beat already fishing.
Still its a big river and there is plenty of room. All the water that I looked at was perfect for fishing nymphs with a short line or Czech Nymphing. The river was flowing a little fast so when I tied up my leader I bunched the flies as tight together as I could to help concentrate their weight and get them down a quick as possible.
My Choice of flies was as follows, heaviest on the point was a light green hydropsyche larvae with a tungsten bead GRHE on the middle dropper and what I call a Scruff Bug. Which is a tungsten bead on a small grub hook (Tiemco TMC 2487 size 16), wrapped scruffily with some pink seal sub and a rib of clear mono.
I fished for a couple of hours with this set up quite sucessfuly with a plenty of tiddlers but enough fish round the 1- 11/2 Lb mark to keep me happy before heading off home.
I Have been to busy keeping my hands warm while fishing to take a photos.
Tight lines for the New Year
